One of the worlds top One Day International batsmen, Nathan Astle had two spells at Accrington.
His first spell in 1997 was cut short when he joined Nottinghamshire as a replacement for their overseas player who was injured.
New Zealander Astle is a right handed early order batsman, who opens in One Day Tests but bats at four or five in the five day game.
Nathan is also a very useful bowler with his right arm medium paced and
he has his a knack of picking up wickets at vital moments in matches.
In his second season at Accrington in 2000, Nathan scored two centuries and six half centuries before leaving in August to link up with New Zealand to prepare for the winter series.
Accrington offered Nathan terms for 2001, but due to International commitments, he was unable to return. In the First Test against England at Christchurch in the 2002 series, Nathan hit the fastest double century in the history of Test cricket off just 153 balls. His 222 came off 168 balls out of a losing total of 451 all out. Nathan was named as New Zealand's 'National Bank Player of the Year' in 2001-02.
